1. Only use the Internet when your parents tell you it's OK, and only for as long as you're supposed to. 2. Always have good manners and be polite when you use the Internet and e-mail or chat. 3. Never meet with an Internet friend unless your parents go with you. 4. Don't give out personal information like your address, telephone number or school name to anyone unless your parents say it's OK. 5. Don't send pictures of yourself or your family to anyone unless your parents say it's OK. 6. Always tell your parents about the people you meet or talk to on the Internet. 7. Don't break copyright rules by taking words, pictures or sound from someone else's Web site without their permission. 8. If you ever get an e-mail message that is strange, mean or upsetting to you, don't answer back to it! Tell your parents or teachers right away! 9. Ask your parents to spend time with you so that you can show them the sites you like to visit. 10. Sometimes, when you are on the Internet, you may accidentally meet bad people or see things that are bad, but it's NOT YOUR FAULT!!! If something you read or look at is upsetting, just stop looking at it, and tell your parents or teachers right away.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Internet Safety - For Kids

To Report a Cyber Creep Call 1-877-5CYBER3   Tips for Internet Safety Tell your parents immediately if you come across something that makes you feel uncomfortable.   Remember that people on the Internet may not be who they seem. Never give out identifying information such as your name, home address, school name, or telephone number in a public message such as in a chat room or on a bulletin board.   People who are dangerous may represent themselves on-line as a young boy or girl in order to entice you to a face-to-face meeting.   You should never arrange a face-to-face meeting without first asking a parent. If a parent agrees, you should meet in a public place with your parent accompanying you. Be careful when someone offers you something for nothing.   Be very careful about any offers that involve you coming to a meeting or have someone visit your home.   Always get to know your on-line friends just as you would get to know all of your friends.   Never send your picture without first asking a parent.   Never respond to messages or items that are suggestive, obscene, belligerent, threatening, or make you feel uncomfortable.   Be sure that you are dealing with someone you and your parents know and trust before giving out any personal information about yourself.   Diligent parental supervision will help ensure your safety on the Internet.

E-mail Safety

A few quick tips to remember about using e-mail:

• Change your password often (and keep it in a safe place)

• Don’t share the password with anyone

• Don’t open any attachments unless they are run through an antivirus program

• Log off when done

• Don’t reply to spam, harassing, or offensive e-mail

• Use common sense and keep personal information personal

• Delete all e-mails, unread, from people you don’t know

• Don’t be caught by the spammers’ favorite trick, “Remember me?”

 

Internet Safety Tips for Kids

I will not give out personal information such as my address, telephone number, parents' work address/telephone number, or the name and location of my school without my parents' permission.

I will tell my parents right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable.

I will never agree to get together with someone I "meet" online without first checking with my parents. If my parents agree to the meeting, I will be sure that it is in a public place and bring my mother or father along.

I will never send a person my picture or anything else without first checking with my parents.

I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will tell my parents right away so that they can contact the online service.

I will talk with my parents so that we can set up rules for going online. We will decide upon the time of day that I can be online, the length of time I can be online, and appropriate areas for me to visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules without their permission.
